The following sets out the minimum hardware and software requirements to listen to the British Academy audio lectures. Please consult this carefully.

What type of computer system and software do I need to access the audio lectures within this site?

This online lectures site is designed using leading-edge web server technologies that are supported by the majority of web browsers in the world. The basis of the content is streaming media lectures so it is important you have at least the following:

  • Pentium 166 class computer (or equivalent)
  • 16mb memory
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 / Netscape Navigator 4 or higher
  • Minimum of 28kbps internet connection
  • Windows Media Player 6.4 or higher

Microsoft Windows Media is freely available for Windows based PCs, Apple Macs and Solaris computers from the Microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp
